Apr 28, 2015 · Local vs surplus center. The locals have been out of hand on hydraulic hose pricing. 1/2" roughly .35/ft, 3/8" about .23-25/ft.
I have had the best results sealing NPT hydraulic threads with teflon tape and I think there is a variety made especially for hydraulics. But at a Loctite seminar I got heckled by suggesting teflon tape vs their special hydraulic sealer for NPT threads. My experience is that the Loctite product leaked and the teflon tape didn't. The argument against teflon tape is that bits can get loose from the threads and get stuck in a small orifice or valve port and mess up the hydraulic system.
