Xfinity Voice is a digital VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) landline phone service carried over Xfinity internet instead of traditional telephone lines.

VoIP phone service offers cleaner audio clarity as well as advanced features like three-way calling and voicemail-to-text messaging.

Xfinity Voice is a good addition to your Xfinity internet service if you want the convenience of a standard landline home phone separate from your mobile service.

Also, unlike Xfinity internet and TV service, Voice doesn’t require an annual contract, so it can be canceled at any time.

TBH, none of our editors who have been Xfinity customers have ever signed up for an Xfinity Voice bundle. Likewise, most of our readers probably have no need for a VoIP simulacrum of a traditional landline phone.

That said, Xfinity Voice bundles are reasonably priced, and we can see value in adding it to your internet bundle if you want peace of mind in case of emergencies (just remember, if your internet is down, so is your home phone), make lots of international calls, or just don’t want to deal with the anxiety of a smartphone.

And if you just want standalone home phone service, Xfinity lets you do that too. Just keep in mind that you’ll still need a router to give your phone power, so you can rent one from Xfinity for $15 each month or use your own.

Xfinity Voice used to cost $20, and the international calling feature cost $10—now, Xfinity has combined both. Some of you might be thinking, “Well, that makes sense,” and others, “But I never make international calls.”

But it’s still $20 cheaper than AT&T, and Verizon requires you to bundle its $25 landline service with internet and TV.

Xfinity also offers cell phone service under the name Xfinity Mobile. Unlike Xfinity Voice, which is based on the company’s existing internet network, Xfinity Mobile rents cell service from Verizon to offer its large coverage map to its own customers.

Xfinity Mobile is only available to existing Xfinity customers, so you can’t buy it as a standalone service. However, since it piggybacks off of Verizon’s network, you can get the same coverage by going to Verizon directly. This will also get you more reliable service since Verizon will prioritize their own customers’ speeds over Xfinity’s.

However, if you’re looking to get a discount by bundling cell service with other utilities and don’t mind the occasional throttling, you might want to consider Xfinity Mobile. Depending on your plans, it might be a better deal.
